The Dom language of Aleppo is the subject of a comprehensive documentation project that is being carried out by Kamal Kelzi, a native speaker who was born and raised in Aleppo, and Yaron Matras, a linguist based in Manchester and Hamburg. The two have published a preliminary sketch of the language based on the RMS Questionnaire template. It is the first comprehensive description of a Domari variety since Matras’s (2012) monograph on the Domari of Jerusalem and the second work devoted to the speech of the Aleppo Dom community following in the footsteps of Herin’s (2012) brief description.
